Forgiving Racism

Disclaimer: I’m white and thus can only discuss racism from that perspective. And it’s white people I’m talking to.

The ego is a thought system. Racism is a social system.
One is composed of thoughts in the mind, and the other is composed of people in the world.
The principles by which they can be understood and dismantled are the same.

As with everything, guilt is at the root of it.

Once upon a time, white people went to where where black people lived, failed to see humanity in them and took them as slaves. Then a bit later, white people decided that wasn’t cool and set their slaves ‘free’ but not nearly free enough.

The guilt in the collective white mind over this is immense, along with our fear of retribution, should black people ever be truly free of our oppression. And whenever we see black skin, we are reminded of our sin.

We don’t want to think about that. We don’t want to look at that. People of colour are a reminder of our guilt, so we don’t want to see them, so we try to get rid of them, or get away from them, in a myriad of ways, both subtle and obvious.

Racism can be found in the mind of any white person. No need to look out there in the world to find it. It’s right here.

I C says

(in private message just to me)

Racism can be found in the mind of any white person. No need to look out there in the world to find it. It’s right here.

You are incorrect as not all white people are racist. I and all of my white friends have no guilt whatsoever regarding past and current racist acts by other humans. We are not responsible for other’s choice to be racist and I bet neither are you.
